JAMSHEDPUR: Near Barigoda railway gate under Parsudih police station, drunk Sumit Singh and his friends beat up shopkeepers and passersby. The miscreants also broke into the government liquor shop and vandalised it. They also beat up the shop employee Vinay Kumar.
Many liquor bottles were also broken. Apart from this, they beat up chicken shopkeeper Suresh Rajak and general store owner Satyendra Verma and damaged the goods in the shop. In protest against this, the shopkeepers of Barigoda closed their shops and blocked the road for about three hours. The shopkeepers raised slogans demanding the arrest of the miscreants. They protested by burning tyres on the road. During this time, traffic remained disrupted on the road for about three hours.
The incident took place on Sunday evening at around 4 pm. Regarding the incident, Ashutosh Singh, the president of Barigoda Market Committee, said that Sumit Singh is a resident of Barigoda. On Sunday, he went to the government liquor shop with some of his friends to buy liquor. When the liquor shopkeeper refused to give him liquor as extortion, Sumit Singh attacked the liquor shop employee Vinay Singh.
Police accused of arriving late
The shopkeepers said that after the incident, Parsudih police was informed about the incident by phone, but Parsudih police reached the spot about one and a half hours after giving the information. Parsudih police station in-charge Faiz Ahmed and Govindpur police reached the spot with force and heard the demands of the shopkeepers.
The shopkeepers told the police that Sumit Singh keeps doing such things. A case has already been registered against him in the police station. In a drunken state, he attacks any shopkeeper anytime. In such a situation, the shopkeepers are running their shops in fear. The shopkeepers said that until Sumit Singh is arrested and the shopkeepers are not given compensation, they will close their shops and sit on the road.
In the past also, information has been given about the drug peddling and drug gangs, but even after that no concrete action has been taken till now. After listening to the shopkeepers, the in-charges of Govindpur and Parsudih police stations assured to take joint action. After this, the jam was cleared and the shops were opened after three hours.
